That’s right. I designed and made a custom wallpaper. My dear friend, who lives in the watery Northwest, was inspired by a Brooklyn Toile wallpaper (that Beastie Boys Mike D. had commissioned) and asked me if I could make a Seattle-inspired one for her.
She and I pulled together a list of iconic places from around the Sound, and I worked each scene into a vector-based asset. As with all patterns, the fun comes with trying to fill the gaps and making it have a lovely, less obvious repeat. Adding around the iconic buildings little ferry boats, orca, birds, planes, and dance steps helped give it that Seattle vibe and filled out the pattern.
We used Spoonflower.com to print the paper. I also had some fabric made from it and made her (and myself) some matching pillows. Yes. I sew, too.
